County Executive Candidate Gordy Hulten
Issues Statement Regarding Nursing Home Sale

CHAMPAIGN, IL – At tonight’s County Board Meeting, a bipartisan group of County Board Members voted by super-majority to approve the sale of the Champaign County Nursing Home to Extended Care Clinical and Altitude Health Services. County Executive candidate Gordy Hulten issued the following statement regarding the sale:

“The sale of the Champaign County Nursing Home is a huge first step towards stabilizing county finances, but I know how difficult this decision was for the County Board. Tonight is not a night for celebration, but a night to reassess the priorities of County government and refocus on providing essential services as efficiently as possible to the people we serve together.

“I want to thank each and every board member for their thoughtful and thorough work throughout this entire process. Chairman Pius Weibel has consistently been an astute and fair leader even at times of heated debate. Our County Administrator Deb Busey and her administrative team have done heroic work to keep County government functioning despite the financial catastrophe caused by the Nursing Home. All of our County’s employees have borne the strain caused by the County’s precarious finances and continued to provide the highest level of  service to our residents during this uncertainty.

“Tonight is a night to begin to look forward. I am eager to continue to work with my colleagues on the County Board to help facilitate a smooth transition from a publicly operated nursing home to one operated by Extended Care Clinical and Altitude Health Services. As County Executive, I look forward to continuing to work with the relationships that our team has built to pay back our vendors, pay down our bonds and to restore the County to a financially sustainable path.”
