News-Gazette: County clerk joins race for new executive position

News-Gazette:

Hulten, 42, said he would focus on cutting costs in county government, coordinating economic-development efforts and developing a process to draw an independently developed county board district map after the next census.

“I’m going to focus on three things: fiscal responsibility, such as driving cost savings for county government, driving efficiencies and improving services at a lower and lower cost to taxpayers; and economic development. I think county government, and the county executive especially, have a role to play in economic development and leading the charge on a regional level for a more regionally focused economic development,” he said. “And third is independent redistricting. Independent redistricting is a critical thing that Champaign County needs in order for its government to improve. It will be a key focus of my campaign.”
